FAQs & information

camper profile

Our camps are geared toward elementary school-aged children up through age 12 or 13 (if you’re unsure if your child fits the age-range, please email us and we can discuss options.)

For siblings attending the same week of camp, the first child is full price, with a 10% discount for each additional sibling.

All age-appropriate campers are welcome, regardless of experience or ability.

Equipment

Campers may provide their own camera equipment, including either a digital camera and SD card or a smart phone or iPad.

We also sell entry-level digital point-and-shoot cameras that the campers keep at the end of camp.

Campers will receive their cameras on the first day of camp, and can take them home on the last day.

You may also consider purchasing this camera, which is easy to use, durable and was developed by a Huntington Beach family (yay, local-ish businesses!).

Damage & loaned equipment policy

The cameras are durable, and we go over equipment care with the campers. However, they are not indestructible. If a camera is damaged beyond use during camp, we will provide the camper with a loaner camera, but it will remain the property of Silver Lake Photo Camp (SLPC).

SLPC is not responsible for replacing or refunding equipment that is damaged due to accidents, negligence or improper use.

Location

We meet in a private room at Silver Lake Community Church, near the corner of Hyperion and Rowena Avenues. SLPC meets both in the classroom and outdoors on the campus and in the surrounding neighborhood.

The parking lot is accessible from both Hyperion Avenue and La Paz Drive, and campers will enter at the amphitheater. We will have clear signs directing you to the camp. Please note that other camps or classes may be taking place in other rooms on the campus. We advise that you allow a few extra minutes for navigating the parking lot during morning drop-off.

Absence/Illness

If a camper misses a day or more of camp due to illness, we will endeavor to reschedule them in the subsequent weeks. We do not offer refunds for illness, though we will work to find a new spot for your camper in the next available session.

Cancellations

21 days or fewer, 50% refund

22 days or more, 100% refund

We reserve the right to cancel a camp due to low enrollment numbers. Payment will be fully reimbursed, should this occur.

health & safety

SLPC follows all applicable laws for youth organizations, including but not limited to background checks for employees working directly with campers. We are insured and registered with the County of Los Angeles, and we comply with the mandated child abuse reporting program, per California’s AB 506 for youth services organizations. Founder and instructor Sally Ryan is also certified in pediatric first aid and CPR.

We are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. While we don’t require proof of vaccination against Covid-19, we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE all campers to be vaccinated for the health and safety of all campers and staff.

We pay close attention to weather, temperature, air quality and how it affects the health of the campers. We reserve the right to cancel camp due to inclement weather.
