silver lake photo camp

calling all kids!

Photography is a great way to get to know your community and see the world in new & exciting ways.

At Silver Lake Photo Camp, we know kids are curious, creative and eager to express themselves. We believe photography is available to everyone, and our goal is to encourage visual communication and storytelling. We go over terminology and basic camera techniques, and the majority of our time is spent learning how to “see,” and how to use the camera to share that vision with others.

Our camps are geared toward kids in Los Angeles, and is run by two professional photographers who are also Silver Lake parents.

We’re a hyper-local camp exploring our community one photo at a time.

hands-on learning

We’re visual learners at Silver Lake Photo Camp. Show us how to do something, and we can do it. We teach the same way. Photography requires an active brain and active body, and we encourage kids to take a hands-on approach to learning.

Through activities, games and take-home crafts, we teach the fundamentals of photography and the foundation for a visual education. We have a lot of fun, get a little messy and make lots of interesting and unexpected photos!

Meet the Team

  • Founder/Instructor

I’m a mom and photographer, and I believe kids bring unbridled creativity and curiosity to everything they do. I founded SLPC to show kids the freedom and creativity of photography, and to encourage visual communication.

You can view my work at Sally Ryan Photography.

  • Camp Director/Instructor

I’m a portrait, commercial and family photographer, and I aim to show honesty with my images. Collaboration is a strength of mine, and I believe in working with clients to create amazing photos they can be proud of.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, moved to New York City in my early twenties, where I earned my Masters from New York University. My career began as a television producer, where I learned how to tell a story with pictures and words.

Twelve years ago I moved to California, and began my career as a professional photographer. The landscapes here are full of humanity, beauty, creativity and diversity - how can I ever put my camera down?

When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my three children and our ever growing menagerie of pets.
